MEMPHIS, Tenn. The Oral Roberts
University men's soccer team started the 2007 season on a right
foot with a come from behind victory, defeating Evansville 2-1 in the opening
round of the Memphis-Diadora Tournament on Friday
afternoon.
Both teams struggled to
get going as the first half finished scoreless. ORU (1-0) fell
behind early in the second half though, as Evansville's Dustin Awe scored
off a free kick to give UE (0-1) an early 1-0 lead.
ORU did not back down as
freshman Vince Tizzone knotted the score at 1-1 at the
57:49 mark. Tizzone received a cross from Nikola
Bogdanovic and blasted a shot from 25 yards out finding the
back of the net.
With less than 20 minutes
to play, sophomore Juan Chang took advantage of a loose
rebound and ripped it past Evansville's goalkeeper Corey
Southers for the game-winner in the 73rd minute.
Bogdanovic was credited with his second assist of the
match.
ORU's redshirt freshman
goalkeeper Andrew Techanchuk finished the game with three
saves. Both teams finished with 11 shots a piece.
The Golden Eagles face Big
East Conference member Louisville in the second game
of the tournament on Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
