Fort Wayne,
IN-Playing for the first time in over two weeks, the Oral Roberts
men's tennis team shook off the rust and earned a 5-2 win over the
IPFW Mastodons Saturday morning in game one of the Summit
Cluster.
ORU owned
singles competition, as Mikhail
Trukshanin got things rolling with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over
Roberto Cabrini in the #1 position.
Igor
Sobolta snagged ORU's second point of the afternoon with a 6-1,
6-2 win in #2 singles, while Dmitry
Suslov pulled out a 7-3, 6-0 victory at the #3 slot.
The win's
kept coming in #4 and #5 singles, as Dario
Beslic defeated and Daniel Kang 6-3, 6-2 and Matthew
Tansil ousted Junya Saruta 6-4, 6-1.
The lone
Golden Eagle singles setback came at #6, when Matthew
Prevost dropped a 1-6, 1-6 dual to IPFW's Eduardo
Sztrajtman.
The
Mastodons fared better in doubles, with the team of Siguad and
Cabrini escaping with an 8-5 victory over Trukshanin and Sobolta in
#1 action.
ORU bounced
back as Suslov and Beslic notched an 8-2 decision over Saruta and
Kang in #2 doubles.
IPFW held on
for the doubles point however, as Tony Kanavos and Dean Guyer
dished out an 8-1 defeat to Tansil and Prevost.
With the
win, ORU improves to 3-7 overall and 2-1 in Summit play.
The Golden
Eagles wrap-up the short weekend this afternoon, as they take on
Centenary at 2:00 p.m.
