Box Score
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - It was the first overtime
match of the season for the Oral Roberts men's soccer team, but it
didn't end up the way they expected, losing to the Lipscomb Bison
in the Hyatt Place Select Lipscomb Invitational, 3-2.
Griffin Pointdexter quickly got the Golden Eagles on the board
to kick the scoring off in the match, scoring on a header off a
corner by Gerardo
Salas. It was Pointdexter's first goal of the 2012 season.
Just under four minutes later, the home team turned a foul into
a goal as Omar Djabi scored on a free kick just outside the penalty
box.
The two squads entered the intermission with the game tied at a
goal apiece, and looking at almost identical numbers through the
first 45 minutes. The Bison got the best of the Golden Eagles on
shots, 7-5, but each had three shots on goal.
It was much of the same in the second half. Tyler
Hill put the Golden Eagles on top with a goal in the 60 minute
mark, only to see the scoreboard even up with just over two minutes
remaining on the clock.
Backup goalkeeper Daniel
McCarthy entered the match with just 30 seconds remaining in
regulation, picking up his first loss of the season. After knocking
down his only save of the match in the 95th minute,
Ethan Summers was there to head it in for the game-winner.
Cody
Lofgren and Craig
Rogers each had opportunities in the first half with the only
other shots on goal for the Golden Eagles.
Ryan
Grashik started the contest, recording two saves and allowing
the first two goals.
The hunt for their first victory of the season will continue in
Denver on Friday as the Golden Eagles (0-5-0) take on Air Force at
5:30 p.m. They will face Denver in the Mile High City at 2 p.m. on
Sunday afternoon.
