SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. - Oral Roberts University
posted their first unblemished effort of the 2013 season on Tuesday
afternoon as they routed John Brown University, 9-0, for their
second straight win. The victory improves Mark
Milner's team to 2-11.
The Golden Eagles opened the day with three perfect doubles
performances. Fabian
Zierleyn and Jason
Mechali dropped Seong Jae Jo and Cameron McLendon in the top
spot, Parker
Allen and Nathaniel
Avery knocked off Alex Baker and Brandon Laney on the second
court and Braxton
Bates combined with Gabriel
Kanelopoulos for a win over Colton Cheek and Blake Zoellner on
the third. All three of the scores were 8-0.
All six of ORU's singles wins came in easy fashion. Zierleyn
took down McClendon at the No. 1 spot, 6-0, 6-2, to even his season
record at 6-6. Mechali won the second spot over Baker, 6-2, 6-1,
and Allen won the third flight with a 6-0, 6-0 over Laney.
Avery kept the momentum going with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over
Zoellner in the fourth flight, while Bates swept Alex Pasco on the
fifth court, 6-0, 6-0. Kanelopoulos ended the day with a 6-2, 6-0
drubbing of Cheek at the No. 6 spot.
The Golden Eagles will continue Southland Conference play on
Sunday afternoon, when they travel to Dallas for a match against
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
