Mechali each earned singles points, but the Oral Roberts
University men's tennis team was beaten by New Orleans, 5-2, on
Friday afternoon at LaFortune Park. The Golden Eagles are now 1-8
(0-3 Southland Conference).
Zierleyn won at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2, over UNO's Timo Kranz.
Mechali, meanwhile, was a 4-6, 6-4, 12-10 comeback winner over
Romain Lefevre on court six.
But the Privateers (4-2, 1-0 SLC) won the other five points,
including a tight victory in doubles. UNO's Lefevre and Blake
Gregor won the top flight, 8-4, over Mechali and Jack
Busby, while ORU came back win an 8-5 win in the second flight,
where Parker
Allen and Amar
Saletovic beat Kranz and Daniel Populus. UNO clinched the point
on court three, where Rui Silva and Chris Appelgren knocked off
Zierleyn and Michael
Sosnowski, 8-7 (7-5).
UNO took four points in singles play. Silva bested Saletovic in the
featured match, 6-2, 6-4, and Gonzalo Garcia topped Busby in the
third flight, 6-2, 6-1. Gregor won the fourth flight, 6-4, 6-4,
over Allen, and Appelgren was a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 victor over Sosnowski
at the No. 5 spot.
The Golden Eagles have a quick turnaround, as they will face
Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon. First serve in Stillwater is
scheduled for 4 pm CT.
