BEAUMONT, Texas - The Oral Roberts men's tennis team won its first outdoor match of the year with a 4-3 win over Lamar in Beaumont, Texas.
The doubles duo of Geronimo Busleiman Espon and Barnabas Koncz moved to 6-1 on the season in doubles play with a 6-2. Mert Celik and Eddy Leardini claimed the doubles points to put ORU up, 1-0, with a 6-4 win at No. 3.
"It was a great win for the guys today," Head Coach Mark Milner said. "It's not easy going on the road and playing the first outdoor match of the year against a tough Lamar team. I felt like we did a good job of sticking to the basics and competed hard today."
The Golden Eagles only needed three singles victories today to win the dual. Lamar made it a 2-1 score winning the first two singles matches. Mert Celik tied it, 2-2, with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 4. Lamar took another lead to make it 3-2 before Geronimo Busleiman Espin tied it, 3-3, with a 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1. Andre Russo claimed the win for the Golden Eagles with a win at No. 5. Russo won sets one and three with 6-4 scores.
