TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts baseball team dropped game one of a weekend series to Incarnate Word, 17-5, Friday afternoon at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
Back-to-back, five-run innings by the Cardinals turned a 2-2 ballgame into a commanding lead for the visitors in a game that lasted nearly three and a half hours.
Hunter Swift gave the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead as the senior blasted a home run over the bullpen in right field extending a two-out rally in the second after a Tanner Lindsly single. The Cardinals cut the margin in half getting a two-out RBI of their own on a single to right making it 2-1 in the third.
ORU had a chance to break the game open in the bottom of the third loading the bases with one out, but the next two batters struck out leaving all three on base. UIW turned the defensive stand into offense tying the game, 2-2, on a RBI double to the wall in right center.
The momentum stayed with the visitors as they sent 11 men to the plate in the top of the sixth scoring five runs on two hits to move in front, 7-2. The Cardinals took advantage of five walks and a hit batter.
Adam Oviedo crushed the first pitch he saw in the bottom half of the sixth off the top of the trees in left to get the Golden Eagles back on the board, trailing 7-3. UIW got its offense right back in the seventh on another extended inning plating five more runs and closed out the road win, 17-5.
Turning Point
UIW broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning taking advantage of six free passes to score five times and jump out to a 7-2 lead. The Cardinals sent 11 batters to the plate registering only two hits.

Inside the Box Score
- Oviedo posted a 2-for-4 effort at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI, including his second home run of the season. The junior transfer added a RBI double down the line in left scoring Blake Hall in the eighth.
- Hall capped his day 2-for-3 at the plate, while scoring a run and drawing a walk.
- Swift launched his first home run of the season putting ORU in front, 2-0, in the second and reached base a second time via a walk.
- AJ Archambo (1-1) suffered the loss on the mound surrendering six runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings of work. The junior struck out five and walked four.
