The Basics
Score: Incarnate Word 8 – Oral Roberts 4
Records:
UIW (6-3, 0-0 SLC) – ORU (4-6, 0-0 SL)
Location:
Tulsa, Okla. (J.L. Johnson Stadium)

TULSA, Okla. – Caleb Denny scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded in the ninth inning as the Oral Roberts baseball team forced extra innings against Incarnate Word, but ultimately fell, 8-4, in 10 innings Saturday at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

Five different players recorded multiple hits for the Golden Eagles helping the home side rally from a 3-0 deficit scoring once in the seventh and twice in the eighth. Ryan Cash lifted a sacrifice fly in the seventh putting the Golden Eagles on the board and Adam Oviedo lined a two-run home run to left in the eighth pushing ORU to a deadlock, 3-3. The Cardinals answered back and struck for a run in the ninth jumping ahead, 4-3.

Denny, Anthony Martinez, and Hunter Swift all hit singles in the ninth inning to load the bases allowing Denny to score the tying run as the Cardinals closer's throw reached the backstop. An intentional walk to Blake Hall put runners everywhere moving the potential winning run just 90 feet from home plate. The Golden Eagles could not get the offense needed to secure the win as the UIW defense held strong.

The Cardinals went on to tally four runs in the top of the 10th pushing the margin too far for ORU to recover claiming game two heading into Sunday's finale, 8-4.

Turning Point

With two outs to work with and the bases loaded in the ninth, the Golden Eagles were unable to fire up the clutch at-bats as back-to-back batters grounded out. UIW turned the defensive stand into offense scoring four times in the 10th taking advantage of three free passes and three singles in the frame.

Quote of the Day

"I thought we hung in there. We made a run late and we kept competing. I thought we had a couple of chances to win it both offensively and defensively, we just came up a little short." – ORU Head Coach Ryan Folmar
