TULSA, Okla. - The Oral Roberts men's tennis team earned a 4-3 win over Omaha in the first Summit League matchup of the season Saturday at the Bernis Duke Tennis Center.
The doubles duo of Geronimo Busleiman Espon and Barnabas Koncz moved to 7-1 on the season in doubles play with a 6-2 win to give the Golden Eagles the advantage. Omaha won at No. 3 doubles to put the doubles point in the hands of Marcello Moreira and Andre Russo at No. 2 Moreira and Russo won the doubles point winning with a 7-6 tiebreak to put ORU up, 1-0.
"What an unbelievable win for the guys today," Head Coach Mark Milner said. "It feels great to get our first league win. We played great doubles and won a very tight 7-6 match at No. 2 doubles."
The Golden Eagles trailed 3-1 at the end of singles play on courts 4, 5 and 6. ORU made it 3-2 beginning with 7-5, 7-6 tiebreak win in sets one and two by Marcello Moreira at No. 3. Barnabas Koncz tied the dual for ORU, 3-3, with a three-set win, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4. Geronimo Espin Busleiman earned the fourth and winning point for ORU after going down 5-7 in set one at No. 1. Busleiman then won set two, 6-2 and finishing out with a 7-5 set three victory to put ORU on top, 4-3.
"Marcello played solid and got our second point," Milner said. "Our senior, Barnabas Koncz, did a great job of battling back from a break down in the third to put up our third point. After that, it came down to our freshman, Geronimo, who played outstanding in the second and third sets. Thanks to everyone who came out and support us. We're looking forward to playing our in-town rival, Tulsa, tomorrow."
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will face Tulsa Sunday, March 1 at 6 p.m. at the Case Tennis Center.
