#ORUVB Secures Senior Day Sweep of Tommies

The Basics
Score: St. Thomas 0 – Oral Roberts 3
Records: UST (3-24, 2-15 SL) – ORU (17-8, 11-5 SL)
Box Score
Location: Cooper Aerobics Center (Tulsa, Okla.)

TULSA, Okla. – It was freshman Trinity Freeman that shined on Senior Day for the Oral Roberts volleyball team in a sweep of St. Thomas (25-19, 26-24, 25-18) from the Cooper Aerobics Center Saturday afternoon as ORU improved to 7-1 at home this season.

Freeman totaled 15 kills and was the only player to reach double digits as the Phoenix, Arizona, native found space to attack the defense thanks to deceptive setting from Bryanne Soares.

The Golden Eagles were aided by four Tommie service errors in an opening set that featured 10 tie scores. A Freeman service ace capped a 3-0 run to put ORU in front, 13-11, and the lead never left the home side as Kaia Dunford had a kill and Jaxie Wakley came up with a solo block for a 21-17 edge. The final three points went to the Golden Eagles to secure the first frame, 25-19.

After ORU built a 3-1 edge in the second set, UST responded with a 6-1 run and stretched the lead to 11-8 before the home side recovered. The Golden Eagles used a 7-1 burst of their own to move ahead, 15-12, getting it done with two blocks, two kills and two service aces. UST battled for a late advantage and ORU had to erase a 23-21 deficit. A Jeslyn Spencer kill followed by a Freeman and Sakira LaCour block evened the score before jumping in front on a UST attack error. The Golden Eagles closed the frame, 26-24, on their second set point taking advantage of another error.

The third frame was a back-and-forth affair until ORU broke through posting three-consecutive points for a 14-12 cushion as LaCour started the run on a kill and Rami Mose combined with Wakley for a block before Freeman added another kill. The margin swelled to 19-14 when Freeman served up her second ace of the day and a Wakley ace capped the 7-1 run for a 23-15 advantage. ORU finished off the sweep of the Tommies, 25-18, as Mackenzie Edwards hammered down the final swing.
