TULSA, Okla. – After picking up its first wins of the season in a sweep on the road last weekend, the Oral Roberts volleyball team remains away from home for a pair of matches at North Dakota State Feb. 14 and 15.
OPENING SERVE
•ORU continues its season-long, four-match road stretch at North Dakota State coming off a series sweep at Western Illinois, including a five-set comeback in the finale Monday.
•Libero
Sarah Thiessen and outside hitter
Aixa Vigil were named Summit League Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week Tuesday for their efforts leading the Golden Eagles to two wins over the Leathernecks.
•Thiessen leads the league totaling 128 digs and reached double figures in every outing, including three, 20+ dig efforts with a career-best 36 Monday. Her 36 digs is the most by anyone in the conference this season and ranks fifth in all of NCAA volleyball.
•The Golden Eagles have four players with at least 50 kills on the year led by
Kaia Dunford's 64.
Aixa Vigil (61),
Jaxie Wakley (57) and
Jeslyn Spencer (50) join the group pacing the offense.
•Vigil has posted a double-double in three of four matches since joining the team and is fifth in the league averaging 3.4 kills per set.
•ORU's setting duo of
Sylvia Lawson (5.1 per set) and
Bryanne Soares (5.2 per set) are efficiently running the offense tallying 118 and 109 set assists, respectively.
•Wakley also excels at the net defensively registering 22 total blocks on the year, which ranks second in The Summit League and is one off the league leader.
•NDSU is coming off a sweep of South Dakota State to even its record in league play and remains a perfect 4-0 at home. Setter Kelley Johnson paces the conference and ranks 19th in the NCAA averaging 11.3 assists per set. Ali Hinze (3.9) and Alexis Bachmeier (3.0) lead the Bison offense combining for 130 kills and 14 service aces, while Bachmeier also leads NDSU with 3.7 digs per set.
•ORU was predicted to finish seventh in The Summit League standings following a quarterfinal exit at last year's conference championships.
•Head Coach
Frank Craig III added six players in his first recruiting class with the Golden Eagles as four freshmen and two junior college transfers joined the program.
Kaia Dunford (Waimanalo, Hawaii),
Chloe Salcedo (Garland, Texas),
Bryanne Soares (Kapolei, Hawaii) and
Jaxie Wakley (Broken Arrow, Oklahoma) enter the collegiate ranks for the first time.
Rami Mose (Compton, California) and
Aixa Vigil (Surquillo, Peru) made the move to ORU after starting in junior college.
