TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts women's basketball team trailed by two points with three minutes to play in the team's 73-61 loss to No. 23 South Dakota State Sunday afternoon at the Mabee Center.
The No. 23 Jackrabbits came out of the gate with a 9-0 run.
Tierney Coleman put ORU on the board with the team's first triple of the game almost four minutes in. The Golden Eagles came out and started 4-for-4 from three-point range, and after trailing by 10 in the first came to within two at the end of the first, 22-20, despite the Jackrabbits shooting 56 percent from the field.
Tierney Coleman tied the game at 22 with a bucket after a defensive stop to start the second.
Ariel Walker gave the Golden Eagles their first lead of the game in the second with the team's fifth three-point bucket. South Dakota State took a 38-32 lead into halftime as both teams shot 40-plus percent from the field.
After back-to-back three-point buckets by
Regan Schumacher and
Ariel Walker, the Golden Eagles pulled to within two early in the third. ORU then took a two-point lead with 6:42 in the third with a fast-break layup by Walker. The No. 23 Jacks took an eight point lead before
Tierney Coleman broke the run to pull within five with two minutes left in the third. At the end of the third, both teams continued to shoot 40-plus percent from the field as ORU trailed 56-51. The Golden Eagles out-scored the Jacks 19-18 in the third.
After trailing by as much as five in the fourth,
Tierney Coleman recorded a career high 22 points with three minutes to play to pull the Golden Eagles to within two. Down the stretch, the Jacks closed out the game on a 10-0 run to claim the 73-61 victory.
