TULSA, Okla. – Vinicius Oliveira scored the golden goal in the second overtime period to lift the Oral Roberts men's soccer team past Eastern Illinois, 2-1, Monday afternoon at home.
The Golden Eagles and Panthers were once again scoreless after the first 45 minutes of play. ORU out-shot Eastern Illinois, 6-2, in the first half.
Alejandro Lubre put the Panthers on top, 1-0, in the 68
th minute on a corner kick. Chad Hamler put the ball in play from the right corner and placed it in the box that was put in on the left side.
ORU tied the game when
Dante Brigida scored the equalizer to make it a 1-1 game in the 77
th minute. Brigida attacked on a breakaway ball that was sent through by
Reed Berry. Berry passed the ball to Brigida and after one touch, he shot the ball after a deflection by the goalkeeper and connected with the back of the net. It was Brigida's third goal of the season and Berry was credited with the assist, his second of the season.
In the 107
th minute,
Vinicius Oliveira scored the game winning, golden goal, to move ORU to 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in Summit League play.
Juan Arias crossed the ball from left to right and after a blocked shot by Brigida, Oliveira shot from center for the game winner and his first goal of the season. Arias and Brigida were credited with assists.
