TULSA, Okla. – The Golden Eagles managed to get back into the win column in the second game of a doubleheader against South Alabama. The twinbill marked the series finale between the two clubs, with South Alabama winning the first two contests.
ORU opened the scoring with three runs in the fifth inning of game one, powered by a pair of RBI singles from
Anthony Martinez and
Ryan Cash.
Another dazzling start from
Isaac Coffey wasn't enough for ORU as the offense sputtered following the fifth inning. Coffey threw 5.2 innings, fanning nine hitters to match a career-high.
Kaleb McCullough added two spotless frames to help keep ORU in the game.
South Alabama added a pair of runs in the sixth, before tying the game in the ninth. The Jaguars eventually managed to take the lead in the tenth inning, before slamming the door on ORU in game one.
Game One Turning Point
The Jaguars capitalized on a passed ball from ORU, using a squeeze bunt to push across a run in the tenth inning. ORU threatened in the bottom half of the inning, but were unable to push across the tying run.
Tanner Rogen took to the mound for ORU in the second contest, going 6.2 innings and allowing just two runs.
Hunter Swift got the Golden Eagles on the board with an RBI groundout in the fifth, before
Alec Jones continued the inning with an RBI single through the left side. South Alabama added a run in the sixth and another in the seventh to tie the game before ORU blew it open.
With the bases loaded,
Anthony Martinez got hit by a hit to drive in Cox. Cash added an infield single to drive in Swift, before
Caleb Denny knocked in a pair of runs with a double to right center field.
Jordan Wiley kept the scoring rolling with a sacrifice fly to left field, plating Cash to cap off the five-run seventh.
In the eighth inning, ORU tacked on a pair of insurance runs to make it a 9-2 game, before
Bradan Pierce came in to close the game out.
Game Two Turning Point
Caleb Denny's two RBI double in the seventh inning swung the momentum to be completely in the Golden Eagles favor.

- Coffey matched his career-high with nine strikeouts in the contest. Previously, Coffey had fanned nine South Dakota State on May 24, 2019.
- Coffey became the first Golden Eagle pitcher to throw 10 or more consecutive scoreless innings since Grant Townsend from February 16 – March 13, 2018.
- Adam Scoggins came in with the bases loaded in the eighth inning before striking out a Jaguar hitter to escape the jam,

- Rogen's 6.2 innings pitched well surpasses his previous start against Little Rock, where he went 4.0 innings.
- ORU's seventh inning was the first time the Golden Eagles had scored five runs in an inning since March 8, 2020 against Dallas Baptist.
- Cash added his second multi-hit game of the day and fifth of the season.

On Tueday, ORU will host Wichita State at J.L. Johnson Stadium beginning at 3 pm. Next weekend, the Golden Eagles will travel to Baton Rouge, La. to take on No. 11 LSU.
