ORU Wraps Up Homestand

The Basics

Records: ORU (2-6, 0-0 Summit), Wichita State (3-3, 0-0 American)
Location: Tulsa, Okla. (J.L. Johnson Stadium)

TULSA, Okla. – After a two day hiatus, the Golden Eagles were back on the diamond, hosting Wichita State for a midweek contest. The two teams engaged in a fierce pitchers duel, with the Shockers escaping J.L. Johnson Stadium with a 3-0 victory.

Six ORU pitchers combined for a strong showing throughout the afternoon. After allowing two runs in the first inning, Andrew Davis didn't allow another run to score in 4.2 innings of work. Cade Denton fanned the only Shocker he faced before giving way to AJ Archambo.

Archambo's first appearance of the season was a spotless sixth inning, inducing two flyouts and a swinging strikeout. In the seventh, Adam Scoggins worked another perfect frame before giving way to Kaleb McCullough in the eighth. The Shockers plated a run in the eighth to extend their lead to three.

Bradan Pierce made his third scoreless appearance of the season, punching out two Shockers in the ninth inning. Through 4.0 innings of work, Pierce has allowed just one hit while striking out five.

ORU could not manage to wake the bats up, mustering just one hit – a stand-up triple by Hunter Swift – through the first six innings. Jake McMurray and Jordan Wiley opened the seventh inning with back-to-back singles, but were stranded to close the inning.

Turning Point
The Shockers pitching staff squandered the Golden Eagles best scoring opportunity in the seventh inning. McMurray and Wiley opened the inning with a pair of singles before being advanced by Joshua Cox. Swift was intentionally walked to load the bases, before a strikeout ended the frame.

Inside the Box Score
- Pierce has worked 4.0 scoreless innings to open his ORU career.
- Denton has fanned the first opposing hitter he has faced in both relief appearances this season.
- The Golden Eagles drew five walks in the contest. ORU now leads the Summit League in bases on balls with 37.
