BATON ROUGE, La. – The Oral Roberts baseball team offense exploded for 22 runs in an upset over the No. 8 LSU Tigers Friday afternoon in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
ORU put up eight runs in the top of the first inning to take a commanding lead.
Joshua Cox and
Ryan Cash got things going with back-to-back doubles.
Jordan Wiley and
Caleb Denny added RBI singles to give ORU a 3-0 lead.
Hunter Swift and
Anthony Martinez both drew bases loaded walks to give the Golden Eagles a 5-0 lead and force LSU to go the bullpen.
Cash capped off the inning his second hit of the inning – a bases clearing double to score Denny, Martinez, and Swift. LSU got three runs back in the bottom half of the inning and four more in the second to make it an 8-7 game.
Evan Kowalski came into the ballgame in the second inning and slammed the door on LSU. Kowalski threw 7.0 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, allowing just two hits and walking one.
In the fourth inning, ORU tacked on 11 runs to take a 19-7 lead.
Adam Oviedo got the scoring going with a bases loaded single to plate Cash. Denny followed with an RBI single to deep left field to score Wiley and
Jake McMurray. Martinez and Cox followed with a pair of RBI singles. Oviedo was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to plate a run before Denny and Swift added another pair of RBI singles.
The Golden Eagles added three more runs in the fifth inning to take their lead to 15, where it would stay for the remainder of the contest.
Brett Gregory came on to work the ninth inning for ORU, where he punched out a pair of Tiger hitters.
Turning Point
Kowalski entered the game in the second inning and immediately shut down the powerful LSU offense. He remained in the game for career-high seven innings of work, where he fanned five hitters.

- Cox made a career-high seven official trips to the plate in the contest.
- Cash drove in a career-best four runs, while adding two doubles, another career mark.
- Denny became the first Golden Eagle to drive in five or more runs in a game since
Riley Keizor on April 26, 2019 at Purdue Fort Wayne.
- ORU put up 11 runs in the fourth inning. The last time the Golden Eagles had scored 10 or more runs in an inning was on March 26, 2015, against Purdue Fort Wayne.
