TULSA, Okla. – For the third-straight week, Oral Roberts volleyball faces a team at the top of The Summit League standings when it welcomes Kansas City to the Cooper Aerobics Center for matches March 12 and 13 live on ORUSN.
OPENING SERVE
•ORU hosts Kansas City for the first time since 2011 as the Roos make their return to The Summit League this season. The Golden Eagles are 44-5 all-time against Kansas City winning four of the last five meetings dating back to 2010.
•Libero
Sarah Thiessen and outside hitter
Aixa Vigil were named Summit League Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week Feb. 9 for their efforts leading the Golden Eagles to two road wins over the Leathernecks.
•After tallying 14 service aces at South Dakota last weekend, ORU moved up to 35th in the NCAA in total aces with 80 as five players all have reached double digits.
•The Golden Eagles have three players that have crossed the century mark in kills as
Aixa Vigil leads the team with 148, while
Kaia Dunford and
Jaxie Wakley have 133 and 126, respectively.
•Thiessen is third in the league and 50th in the nation totaling 232 digs as the redshirt junior has reached double figures in every outing, including five, 20+ dig efforts with a career-best 36 Feb. 8. Her 36 digs remains the most by anyone in The Summit League this season.
•Vigil has posted a double-double in seven of 10 matches played and reached double-digit kills in all but one outing.
•Wakley excels at the net posting 48 total blocks and ranks seventh in the league averaging 0.94 blocks per set.
•Setters
Bryanne Soares and
Sylvia Lawson have combined to put ORU sixth in the conference recording 11.1 assists per set. Soares had a 54-assist effort Feb. 15 and has nine appearances with at least 20 assists, while Lawson has two, including 35 against North Dakota.
•The Golden Eagles have pushed seven of 10 Summit League contests into five sets, but are 1-6 overall when playing a fifth set.
•ORU was predicted to finish seventh in The Summit League standings following a quarterfinal exit at last year's conference championships.
•Head Coach
Frank Craig III added six players in his first recruiting class with the Golden Eagles as four freshmen and two junior college transfers joined the program.
Kaia Dunford (Waimanalo, Hawaii),
Chloe Salcedo (Garland, Texas),
Bryanne Soares (Kapolei, Hawaii) and
Jaxie Wakley (Broken Arrow, Oklahoma) enter the collegiate ranks for the first time.
Rami Mose (Compton, California) and
Aixa Vigil (Surquillo, Peru) made the move to ORU after starting in junior college.
