TULSA, Okla. – It was a tightly-contested match all night featuring 22 tie scores and 10 lead changes, but the Oral Roberts volleyball team fell to Kansas City (23-25, 22-25, 23-25) Friday night from the Cooper Aerobics Center.
 
Three-straight points by the Roos broke an early 3-3 tie before the Golden Eagles made a 6-1 run to jump in front by three, 13-10, getting three kills by Kaia Dunford in the burst and forced KC into a timeout. The visitors answered back with a 4-0 run and the lead switched three times before the Roos connected for a 22-19 advantage and closed the frame, 25-23.
 
Back-to-back blocks from Jaxie Wakley/Morgan Blomquist and Wakley/Sakira LaCour helped ORU to a 2-1 margin and later pushed the margin to 12-8 highlighted on a Jeslyn Spencer service ace. KC came out of its timeout by scoring seven of the next eight points turning momentum and eventually took a 17-14 edge. Trailing by four, the Golden Eagles fought back and used a 4-0 run to even the score, 21-21, getting a block from Wakley and Blomquist before another Roos error. KC tallied the final three points on kills to secure the set, 25-22.
 
The drive for the Roos extended into the third set pushing to a 7-1 advantage and extended to 10-3 before ORU found a way to stop the run. The Golden Eagles cut the deficit to 12-7 on a Bryanne Soares kill, but KC scored back-to-back points for a 17-10 lead. Wakley buried consecutive kills and Spencer combined with LaCour for a block followed by a kill of her own as ORU pulled within three, 17-14. A 3-0 run by the Golden Eagles capped on a Chloe Salcedo ace helped the team close the gap to one, 20-19. ORU fought off two match points on kills from Aixa Vigil and Spencer before the Roos put a ball away to seal the contest, 25-23.

• Wakley paced the Golden Eagles with nine kills and chipped in 13 digs reaching double-digit digs for the first time in her career. She also had five block assists to lead the team
• Sarah Thiessen led all players with 20 digs and added five set assists.
• Soares registered a 19-assist, 19-dig double-double.
• Blomquist finished with four kills on 12 swings for a .333 hitting percentage, while Vigil and Dunford recorded six and five kills, respectively.
• Spencer put away three service aces to go with seven digs and four kills.
