TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts volleyball team suffered a three-set loss to South Dakota State (20-25, 20-25, 21-25) Friday night inside the Cooper Aerobics Center.
 
The Golden Eagles opened up a 3-0 lead forcing the Jackrabbits into back-to-back errors until the visitors fought back and broke a 5-5 tie by scoring 10 of the next 12 points. A kill from setter Sylvia Lawson stopped the 6-0 run and a Jaxie Wakley service ace helped ORU on a three-point burst closing the gap to 20-18. SDSU was able to close the set with five of the final seven points, 25-20.
 
After falling behind 7-4 in set two, the Golden Eagles found success in the middle of the stanza and turned a three-point deficit into a three-point advantage, 18-15. Lawson and Sakira LaCour combined for a block to cap the stretch, but a 9-1 run by the Jackrabbits secured the set for the visitors, 25-20.
 
Wakley buried another ace serve following a Kaia Dunford kill to close a 6-0 span for ORU as the home side pushed to a 12-9 lead in the third set. The margin stretched to 14-10 and the Golden Eagles maintained a four-point advantage, 16-12, on a Jeslyn Spencer swing. SDSU turned momentum and rallied back late to erase the score and finish the match, 25-21.
 
Inside the Box Score

• Sarah Thiessen was electric defensively and finished with 21 digs in the three-set outing.
• Aixa Vigil paced ORU with eight kills and added 11 digs.
• Lawson posted 12 set assists, four kills and three block assists.
• Victoria Mayes was honored as the Golden Eagles lone senior and tallied three kills on 10 swings.
