BATON ROUGE, La. – The Oral Roberts baseball took down the No. 8 LSU Tigers on Sunday afternoon to win the series in convincing fashion. Throughout the series, the Golden Eagles outscored the TIgers 25-19. The win marked the first series win over an SEC program since the Golden Eagles swept Alabama in February of 2017.
Tanner Rogen threw an absolute gem for six innings against the eighth-ranked Tigers. The redshirt senior allowed just five hits and fanned seven throughout his start.
Cade Denton,
Adam Scoggins, and
Kaleb McCullough each tossed two-thirds of an inning in the upset victory, before
Bradan Pierce picked up the save in the ninth inning.
LSU got a run in the fourth on an RBI single. They would maintain a one run advantage into the eighth inning when the Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard.
Caleb Denny ripped a double down the right field line to score
Adam Oviedo from first base, before coming around to score on the same play from a pair of throwing errors. LSU threatened in the bottom half of the inning before
Anthony Martinez made a diving stop at shortstop to end the inning.
Ryan Cash added an insurance run for the Golden Eagles when he singled through the left side to score Martinez. In the bottom of the ninth, Pierce recorded a strikeout, a foul out to the first baseman, and eventually a ground out to Cash to end the series.
Turning Point
A pair of throwing errors on Denny's RBI double in the eighth inning allowed the Golden Eagles to take the lead. Denny advanced to third on the throw to the plate before the ball went sailing into left field, allowing Denny to scamper home.
