#ORUBase Sweeps Doubleheader; Secures Series Win

TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts baseball team won both games of a doubleheader against South Dakota State on Sunday to improve to 10-4 in Summit League play this season.
 
South Dakota State opened the scoring in game one in the second inning. Adam Oviedo and the Golden Eagles responded immediately when he drove in Caleb Denny on a ground out to third.
 
Jake McMurray drove in three runs with a single in the fifth inning and a two-run double in the seventh inning.
 
In the top of the eighth inning, South Dakota State got a run back with an RBI single to cut ORU's lead to two. Oral Roberts responded in the bottom half of the frame with two runs. Brody Gibson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in a run. Immediately following Gibson's hit by pitch, Anthony Martinez reached on a fielding error by the Jackrabbits pitcher, allowing Jordan Wiley to score from third.
 
Adam Scoggins picked up a five out save in game one – his fifth save of the season. Since March 28, Scoggins has thrown 6.1 innings without allowing a run.
 
In the second game, Isaac Coffey tossed his third complete game in four starts. The sophomore allowed just four hits while fanning seven.
 
Coffey engaged in a pitcher's duel with South Dakota State as the game saw just one run cross the plate. Through the first three innings of the ballgame, Coffey faced the minimum.
 
The lone run of the game came in the sixth inning when Caleb Denny singled through the middle to score Joshua Cox from second.
 

Game One Turning Point
Jake McMurray drove in three runs for the Golden Eagles in the first game of the day. After a 5-5 performance, McMurray tallied another multi-hit game in game one of the doubleheader.
 
Game Two Turning Point
Another dominant start from Isaac Coffey lifted the Golden Eagles to their fourth straight victory. Coffey threw his third complete in four starts.
 
Inside The Game One Box Score
  • Joshua Cox, Jake McMurray, and Blake Hall all tallied multi-hit games for ORU.
  • Adam Scoggins picked up his fifth save of the season, moving him into a tie for second-place in the Summit League.
  • Evan Kowalski fanned a season-high six hitters in the contest.
  • McMurray matched his career-high with three runs batted in.
  • McMurray's seventh inning double was his fourth of the season – matching his previous season-high which he set in 2019.

  • ORU climbs above .500 for the first time this season.

  • Coffey picked up his sixth win of the season, tying him for the Summit League lead.

Up Next
After securing the series victory on Saturday, the Golden Eagles will go for the sweep against South Dakota State on Sunday afternoon. If ORU completes the sweep, it will be their first series sweep at home since March 15-17, 2019 against Purdue Fort Wayne.
