#ORUVB Drops Home Match to North Dakota State

TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts volleyball dropped their third straight match Saturday afternoon as they fell in straight sets (20-25, 17-25, 17-25) to North Dakota State inside the Cooper Aerobics Center.

Kaia Dunford and Trinity Freeman registered 10 kills apiece to lead the ORU offensive attack. Dunford also scooped up 13 digs for her team-leading 11th double-double of the season. 

Setter Bryanne Soares dished out 15 assists and registered 10 digs for her fifth double-double of the year.

With the score tied at 6-6 in the opening set, the Bison used a 5-1 run to create separation between the two sides. NDSU stretch their advantage to seven, 19-12, with a 4-1 run. The Golden Eagles trimmed the deficit to four, 24-20, with a 3-0 stretch but the Bison scored the next point to take the opening set, 25-20.

In the second stanza, NDSU jumped out to a 4-0 start before a Dunford kill put an end to the run. After ORU drew within two, 6-4, the Bison answered with a 7-1 run to stretch their lead to 13-5. The 7-1 surge gave NDSU all the cushion they needed as they claimed set two, 25-17.

Leading 14-10 in the third, the Bison used a 5-1 run to stretch their lead to eight, 19-11. The two sides traded the final 12 points as NDSU went on to win the set, 25-17, and match. 

Match Notes

  • Saturday's contest marked the 35th meeting all-time and second this season between ORU and NDSU.
  • Dunford registered her second straight double-double.
  • Kalena Vaivai topped the team in assists with 16.
  • Jeslyn Spencer, Sakira LaCour, Natassia Baptiste and Soares each registered two blocks apiece.
  • Spencer also contributed with nine kills.
  • Libero Breanna Rivas recorded a match-best 16 digs.
