DENVER, Colo. – The Oral Roberts volleyball team fell in straight sets (21-25, 9-25, 19-25) Thursday evening on the road to Summit League foe Denver inside Hamilton Gymnasium.

After Denver scored the first three points of the opening set, the Golden Eagles responded with six of the next nine to even the stanza at 6-6. A 4-1 run by the Pioneers created separation between the two sides, 17-13, forcing an ORU timeout. The Golden Eagles registered the first two points out of the stoppage to draw within two, 17-15, but that would be as close as they would get as Denver took the set, 25-21.

In the second game, the Pioneers raced out to an 11-2 start, forcing an ORU timeout. A 7-0 run saw the Denver lead bloom to 18-4 before a Trinity Freeman kill stopped the bleeding momentarily. The Pioneers went on to claim the second set, 25-9.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 4-1 start in the third behind two Kaia Dunford kills. With ORU leading 16-12, Denver used a 5-1 stretch to even the set at 17-17. The Pioneers took their first lead of the stanza, 19-18, on a Brianna Green service ace and closed the set on a 7-1 run as the Golden Eagles dropped their fourth straight contest.

Match Notes

• Thursday's contest marked the 20th meeting all-time and second this season between ORU and Denver.
• Middle blocker Sakira LaCour led the team in kills with eight followed by Dunford and Freeman, who finished with seven apiece.
• Bryanne Soares dished out a team-best 17 assists.
• In the backrow, Breanna Rivas scooped up a team-high 13 digs.
• At the net, Natassia Baptiste registered three blocks to lead ORU.
