TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts University Athletics and The Brandr Group (TBG) have established a group licensing agreement for the university's student-athletes competing across all of the Golden Eagles' 16 sports. This partnership enables Oral Roberts student-athletes to profit off their Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) using the school's official trademarks and logos. This marks TBG's first group licensing agreement with a school from The Summit League.
"We're excited to partner with Brandr and to give our student-athletes the opportunity to utilize their name, image and likeness while using the ORU Athletics brand," ORU Athletic Director
Tim Johnson said. "We want to give our student-athletes the best opportunity to market themselves and take advantage of the NIL system. This will also give Golden Eagle fans a chance to purchase merchandise that represents all of our teams and all athletes who opt-in. We look forward to beginning this partnership and are excited to continue to grow the ORU brand while helping our student-athletes stay on the cutting edge of NIL."
The collaboration with The Brandr Group allows for the collective use of student-athletes' NIL in licensing and marketing programs, co-branded with Oral Roberts logos and marks. Student-athletes will have the option to voluntarily join a group licensing program. TBG will facilitate group licensing opportunities on behalf of the student-athletes, and the program does not limit individual NIL rights. Potential licensees interested in learning more should contact Jim Neish at TBG.
TBG, a brand management, marketing and licensing agency, will manage and administer the program as well as develop licensing opportunities on behalf of the student-athletes. With decades of collective management experience for some of the world's largest brands, TBG also manages group rights programs for the NFL, NBA and MLB players associations in the college space.
For decades, products that combine team logos and player names and numbers have been responsible for a large portion of licensed sports merchandise sales at the professional level, and this program creates the same opportunities for collegiate student-athletes.
"We are excited to collaborate with Oral Roberts Athletics to develop NIL programs for their student-athletes," said Rick Perko, Vice President of Program Development at TBG. "This group licensing agreement will enable student-athletes to capitalize on their NIL through co-branded opportunities across Oral Roberts' sponsorship and merchandising portfolio, while also creating new ways for Golden Eagles fans to engage with their favorite players."
Fans can expect to be able to purchase official Oral Roberts merchandise, including team jerseys with the name and number of Golden Eagles players who have joined the respective group licensing program, once TBG enters into agreements with applicable school trademark licensees.
