#ORUWBB Drops Home Opener to Wichita State, 89-67

TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts women's basketball team dropped their 2022-23 home opener to Wichita State, 89-67, Wednesday night inside the Mabee Center.

Tirzah Moore logged her second double-double of the season as the sophomore poured in 17 points and pulled down a game-best 14 rebounds. Senior Hannah Cooper led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while Delaney Nix rounded out the double-figure scorers with 13 points. 

At the 8:52 mark of the opening quarter, Cooper knocked down a triple from the left wing to give the Golden Eagles their only lead of the contest, 3-2. Following another Cooper triple with 3:15 remaining in the quarter that brought ORU to within one, 17-16, the Shockers responded with an 8-2 run to take a 25-18 advantage. Cooper stopped the run with her third three of the period with :31 ticks left on the clock but Wichita State netted the final basket of the quarter as they took a 27-21 lead into the second.

A Trajata Colbert layup gave the Shockers a 10-point lead with 6:27 left in the half. The Golden Eagles responded with a quick 5-0 run over the next 1:21 as they trimmed the deficit to 37-32. Wichita State fired back with six straight points to push their lead to 11, 43-32, at the 2:54 mark. Following four consecutive points from Nix, the Shockers closed the half on a 7-0 run to take a 50-36 lead into the break.

Out of halftime, ORU netted five straight points to cut the lead back down to single-digits, 50-41, with 9:06 left in the period. The Shockers extended their lead back to double-figures for good, 54-43, following a Curtessia Dean jumper at the 8:01 mark. Wichita State later used a 5-0 run to take a 16-point advantage, 70-54, with :59 ticks left in the quarter and headed to the fourth with a 72-57 lead.

In the fourth, the Shockers' lead grew to 22, 79-57, their largest of the game, behind a 7-0 run with 6:25 remaining in the contest. The two sides traded the final 20 points of the game as the Golden Eagles fell 89-67 in their home opener.

THE LEADERS
Oral Roberts: Tirzah Moore registered her second double-double of the season after finishing with 17 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Wichita State: Four Shockers reached double figures led by DJ McCarty with a game-high 23 points on 11-of-17 shooting.
                                                                                                                                                 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- ORU dished out a game-best 16 assists in the contest, led by Ruthie Udoumoh's game-high six.
- The two squads registered six blocks apiece on the night.
- Wichita State won the battle on the boards, 49-27.
- ORU made nine threes in the contest, led by a game-high four from Nix.
- Tirzah Moore logged a game-best four blocks on the night.

GAME NOTES
- Despite the loss, the Golden Eagles still hold a 12-11 advantage in the all-time series against the Shockers.
- In home openers, ORU is now 34-14 all-time.
- Cooper's double-digit performance was her fourth straight to open the season.
- Tirzah Moore's double-double was the fifth of her career.
