#ORUWBB Notches Overtime Win on Road

THE BASICS

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Oral Roberts women's basketball team completed a two-game sweep on the weekend after knocking off St. Thomas 73-67 in overtime on Saturday afternoon in St. Paul.  In the overtime period, Katie Scott came up huge for the Golden Eagles and helped secure the hard-fought road win.
 
From the tip, the Golden Eagles dominated the first quarter. Over the first 7:30, ORU outscored the Tommies 11-2, led by four points from Keni Jo Lippe. When the first quarter ended, ORU had doubled the Tommies score and held a 16-8 lead heading into the second segment.
 
The second quarter saw a dead-even 18-18 split between the two teams. St. Thomas opened the quarter with four straight points before ORU connected on four points of the own. Over a 2:50 stretch in the middle of the quarter, the Golden Eagles went on a 10-0 run with five points coming from Delaney Nix. For the final 2:20 of the half, St. Thomas outscored the Golden Eagles 7-2, with the lone bucket coming from Regan Schumacher.
 
After the break, St. Thomas used a 10-0 run to cut the Golden Eagles lead to just two. Schumacher once again ended the drought with a basket and got the ORU offense back on track. The two teams continued to trade baskets for the remainder of the quarter with ORU eventually building their lead back to five.
 
The Tommies went on a 6-0 run to open the fourth quarter, retaking the lead at 46-45. With 8:11 left to go, Delaney Nix would connect on a layup after a feed from Scott. The two teams would trade leads for the remainder of regulation. With 2:12 left in regulation, Scott connected on a lay-up to tie the game at 59 apiece. The two squads would trade possessions with both coming up empty. With 17 seconds left in regulation, the Tommies had the ball with a chance to win the game. The Golden Eagle defense forced a pair of missed shots and forced an overtime period.
 
In overtime, Ariel Walker gave ORU the first lead before St. Thomas answered with a bucket to knot the game back up. Tirzah Moore gave ORU a two-point lead before a stepback jumper from Scott pushed the lead to four with 1:20 to play. On defense, Scott sealed the game by drawing a charge and giving the Golden Eagles the ball back. With the ensuing possession, Lippe knocked down a pair of free throws to push the ORU lead to six. From there on out, the Golden Eagles just needed to run out the clock, going 6-8 from the charity stripe.
 
THE LEADERS
Oral Roberts: Katie Scott led the ORU scoring efforts with 17 points while Regan Schumacher pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Scott also dished out a game-high six assists.
St. Thomas:  Jade Hill led the Tommies in scoring, dropping 27 on Saturday afternoon. Jo Langbehn added a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double.
