TULSA, Okla. – Ledgend Smith and
Cade Denton dominated on the bump and the Oral Roberts baseball team bounced back to even the series against Summit League foe Omaha with a 6-1 victory Saturday afternoon at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
The Golden Eagles broke the scoreless tie in the sixth as back-to-back solo home runs from
Mac McCroskey and
Caleb Denny put ORU on top 2-0. The back-to-back homers marked the first time the Golden Eagles accomplished the feat since May 15, 2021, at Omaha.
Smith picked up his fourth win of the season on the mound after tossing a career-high seven innings of one-run ball and striking out eight. In relief,
Cade Denton picked up the save, his third of the season, after working two scoreless frames.
Holden Breeze drove in a season-high three runs after finishing the day 2-for-4 at the dish. The redshirt sophomore brought home his first run of the contest in the third with an RBI single up the middle that pushed the ORU lead to 3-0.
A Drew Reetz solo homer in the top of the seventh cut the Golden Eagle advantage to 3-1.
In the eighth, Breeze pushed the lead to 5-1 with a two-run double down the left-field line that plated
Jackson Loftin and
Joshua Cox. Breeze later came around to score on a
Tanner Lindsly single to right-center, making the final tally 6-1.
