OMAHA, Neb. – Ledgend Smith and
Cade Denton combined for 11 shutout innings and the Oral Roberts baseball team evened their series against Summit League foe Omaha with a 2-0 win in extras on Saturday night at Tal Anderson Field. With the win, the Golden Eagles have now won 10 of their last 11 road contests.

The shutout marked the fourth of the season for the Golden Eagles.

After
Jackson Loftin and
Justin Quinn reached on back-to-back walks to open the 11th, the two advanced to second and third via a sacrifice bunt from
AJ Archambo. Loftin and Quinn later crossed the plate on two separate wild pitches to give ORU the 2-0 lead.

Smith tossed a career-high 7.1 scoreless frames and struck out five for his seventh quality start of the season. With his performance, the redshirt senior lowered his ERA in Summit League play to 0.84.

In relief, Denton threw 3.2 scoreless innings and registered four strikeouts to earn his fourth win of the season. The sophomore has now thrown 25.2 consecutive scoreless frames.

With only one out in the eighth, the Mavericks threatened to take the lead as they loaded the bases.
Holden Breeze recorded the second out of the frame as he nailed the go-ahead run at the plate on a groundout. Another grounder, this time to Loftin at short, ended the Omaha threat.

In the bottom of the 11th, Denton set down the side in order as ORU evened the series against the Mavericks with a 2-0 shutout victory.
