#ORUBase Advances to Summit League Championship Title Game with 12-8 Win over Omaha

TULSA, Okla. – Alec Jones drove in a career-high four runs and the Oral Roberts baseball team punched their ticket to the Summit League Championship title game with a 12-8 victory over Omaha Friday night at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
 
The Golden Eagles have now advanced to the title game in each of their 22 Summit League Championship appearances.
 
Kaleb McCullough (2-0) picked up the win in relief after tossing 2.2 scoreless frames and striking out two. Cade Denton worked the final two innings and allowed an unearned run. The sophomore has now gone 29.2 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run.
 
The Golden Eagles opened the scoring for the second straight day with three runs in the first. After Jake McMurray and Mac McCroskey reached on walks, Jackson Loftin plated them both with a single up the middle. The Houston, Texas, native later came home to score on a Holden Breeze sacrifice fly.
 
Breeze added to the lead in the third with an RBI single through the left side to make it 4-0, ORU. Following a Connor Beichler walk to load the bases, Alec Jones drove home two more runs with a single to left as the Golden Eagles led 6-0.
 
In the fourth, Omaha answered with five runs on five hits to trim the ORU lead to one, 6-5.
 
Jones delivered the response for the Golden Eagles in the top of the fifth as the sophomore plated two runs with a double down the left-field line to extend the advantage to 8-5. The Poway, California, native came around to score in the next at-bat as McMurray ripped a single up the middle to make it 9-5, ORU.
 
Back-to-back solo shots for the Mavericks in the bottom half of the fifth drew them to within two, 9-7.
 
In the eighth, Caleb Denny led off the frame with a solo blast to right to stretch the lead to 10-7. The home run was Denny's team-leading 11th of the season. Later in the frame, Beichler drove home two more ORU runs with a single to left to make the score 12-7.
 
Omaha pushed across an unearned run in the ninth to make the final tally 12-8 in favor of ORU.
 
Inside the Box Score
- Jones drove in a career-high four runs after finishing 2-for-4 at the plate.
- Seven different Golden Eagles recorded a multi-hit game.
- Beichler went 2-for-3 at the dish with two walks and two RBI.
- The redshirt sophomore also swiped his 13th base of the season in the second.
- Breeze and Loftin each drove in two runs on the night.
- Denny launched his team-leading 11th homer of the season.
- The redshirt sophomore extended his on-base streak to 25 games and hit streak to 11 games in the victory.
- McCroskey stretched his on-base streak to 19 games.
- Ledgend Smith got the start for ORU and allowed a season-high seven runs in 4.1 innings.
- McCullough improved to 2-0 on the year after throwing 2.2 scoreless innings and striking out two.
- Cade Denton allowed an unearned run in two innings of work to finish off the win.
- The Rowlett, Texas, has not allowed an earned run in 29.2 consecutive innings.
