STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oral Roberts men's tennis team fell in its 2023 season opener, 4-3, Monday afternoon to UTRGV in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Oral Roberts jumped out ahead early by claiming the doubles point at the two and three positions. Newcomer Gustavo Pinho teamed up with Eli Brewer to win the first doubles match, 7-5. Kevin Leuenberger and Jonathan Evans sealed the point with a 7-5 win. Each duo is now 1-0 on the season.

"The guys came up short today, but fought for every point and left everything on the court," Director of Tennis Mark Milner said. "I am proud of their fight and energy today. We will clean up some mistakes and look forward to Montana State on Thursday."

In singles play, the Vaqueros went up 3-1 winning at positions four, six and two, respectively. Evans earned a point for the Golden Eagles winning at no. 5 in three sets. After falling behind 5-7 after set one, he won sets two and three each with a 7-5 score. Monferrer made it a 3-3 dual winning a three-set match at the no. 3 spot, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. UTRGV claimed the final point winning at no. 1.  

Up Next: ORU will play Montana State Thursday, January 19 at 8 p.m. at the Case Tennis Center in Tulsa.
