TULSA, Okla. – Blaze Brothers drove in a pair of runs and scored three times as the Oral Roberts baseball team defeated Wichita State, 5-2, in midweek action Tuesday night from J.L. Johnson Stadium.

Joshua Caravalho got the start for the Golden Eagles and allowed one run, unearned, over five innings of work. In relief, Evan Kowalski picked up his first win of the season, while Cade Denton earned his second straight save and fourth of the year. Denton struck out three over two no-hit innings to record the save.

Brothers finished the night 2-for-3 at the dish to go along with a homer, double, walk and stolen base. The redshirt senior also crossed the plate a season-high three times in the win. Matt Hogan, the Collegiate Baseball, D1 Baseball and Dick Howser Trophy National Player of the Week, and Holden Breeze joined Brothers with a multi-hit performance as they each went 2-for-4 at the plate.

In the third, a leadoff walk came back to bite the Golden Eagles as the runner came around to score on a fielding error as Wichita State jumped out to a 1-0 advantage.

Two innings later, Brothers delivered the answer for ORU as the Lowell, Arkansas, native blasted a solo homer to left to tie the game, 1-1. The long ball was Brothers' fifth of the season and second in the last three games. After Jake McMurray, who followed Brothers with a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, Jonah Cox put the Golden Eagles in front, 2-1, with an RBI single through the right side.

The Shockers responded with a solo homer in the sixth to even the score at 2-2. In the bottom half of the frame, Brothers put ORU back in front with an RBI double down the left-field line. On the play, a throwing error by Wichita State allowed Brothers to come around to score as the Golden Eagles took a 4-2 lead.

The Shockers threatened to answer in the seventh as they loaded the bases with only one out but were denied as Dalton Patten struck out the next two batters to end the frame.

In the eighth, Brothers, who reached on a walk, stole second and took third on a throwing error before crossing the plate on a wild pitch to add an insurance run to ORU's advantage.
