TULSA, Okla. – Mac McCroskey homered for the third consecutive game and sixth time in the last six contests as the Oral Roberts baseball team run-ruled Northern Colorado, 13-3, in eight innings for its seventh straight victory Sunday afternoon from J.L. Johnson Stadium.
With the win, the Golden Eagles recorded their third consecutive sweep and are off to their best start (12-0) in Summit League play since beginning 20-0 in 2004.Â
McCroskey became the first Golden Eagle to record three straight games with a home run since Spencer Henson accomplished the feat in 2019. The redshirt senior finished the day 3-for-4 at the plate to go along with three RBI and two walks.Â
Catcher Jacob Godman matched McCroskey with three RBI on the afternoon after going 2-for-3 at the dish. Justin Quinn notched his fourth straight multi-hit performance with a 2-for-5 day at the plate and belted his second homer in as many games. First baseman Jake McMurray recorded his third three-hit performance of the season and drove home two runs on the afternoon, while Sam Thompson reached base safely in all four plate appearances.
On the mound, Brooks Fowler earned the win after allowing two runs, both unearned, over five innings of work. The sophomore also struck out six on the day. In relief, Jacob Widener struck out three of the four batters he faced in a scoreless appearance.
The Golden Eagles opened the scoring in the first behind the bat of Quinn, who launched a solo blast to right on the first pitch of the at-bat. The home run marked the third of the season for the senior.
In the second, Godman stretched the advantage to 2-0 with an RBI triple that plated Thompson, who reached on a walk.
The Bears battled back in third with a two-run double by Caden Wagner that evened the game at 2-2. Both runs that came across to score were unearned due to an ORU throwing error in the frame.
The Golden Eagles responded with a pair of runs in the fourth to retake the lead, 4-2. In the frame, McCroskey notched his first RBI of the game with a single to right and Drew Stahl picked up his lone RBI of the day with a sacrifice fly down the right-field line.
ORU broke the game open in the fifth with an eight-run inning as its lead bloomed to 12-2. McMurray started the scoring with a two-run single to left-center, while Quinn and Jonah Cox followed with back-to-back RBI doubles.
The ensuing batter, McCroskey, kept the inning rolling with a two-run homer to left-center that traveled 434 feet. The long ball marked the 11th of the season for the Springdale, Arkansas, native. Following a single from Holden Breeze and a double from Thompson, Godman capped the eight-run frame with a two-run single to left.
After Northern Colorado extended the game in the seventh with an RBI single, the Golden Eagles walked it off an inning later as McCroskey came around to score on a Dalton Patten single as ORU run-ruled the Bears, 13-3.
