COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – Jakob Hall tossed six scoreless innings and Jonah Cox homered twice as the Oral Roberts baseball team run-ruled North Dakota State, 10-0, in shutout fashion for its eighth straight win Friday afternoon from Doc Ross Field in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The shutout marked the third of the season for the Golden Eagles, who remained perfect in Summit League play.
The ORU right-hander earned the win after throwing six shutout frames to go along with seven strikeouts. Hall has now delivered back-to-back scoreless starts. In relief, Joshua Caravalho finished off the shutout with a scoreless seventh.
Cox extended his hitting streak to 22 games with a 3-for-4 performance at the dish to go along with two homers and three RBI. The multi-home run performance marked the first of the year for the junior. Fellow outfielder Justin Quinn joined Cox with a three-hit performance as the senior finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a homer and three RBI.Â
Quinn jumpstarted the ORU offense in the first with a solo blast to right. The long ball marked the fourth of the season for the senior and third in the last four games.
A batter later, Matt Hogan made it 2-0, Golden Eagles, with a solo homer to center. For Hogan, the home run was the redshirt senior's team-leading 14th of the year.
After Quinn reached on a single in the third, Cox extended the ORU advantage to 4-0 with a two-run homer to left-center.
In the fourth, the Bison looked to push across their first run of the day as they loaded the bases with two outs. A great diving stop at first by Jake McMurray put an end to the North Dakota State scoring threat.
Cox struck again in the sixth with his second long ball of the day, this time a solo blast to right. The homer marked the fourth of the year for the Thornton, Colorado, native.
In the seventh, the Golden Eagles plated five runs to make the final 10-0. Quinn plated a pair in the frame, while Drew Stahl also picked up an RBI.Â
