TULSA, Okla. – The ORU volleyball team fell to the St. Thomas Tommies in four sets (14-25, 25-21, 21-25, 18-25) on Thursday night at the Mabee Center. Despite an outstanding second set, the Golden Eagles couldn't find a way to win their first match of a two match home series.
ORU dropped set one, in part from an 8-0 run by the Tommies, pushing them ahead 9-3 early in the set. This deficit was too large to overcome as the Golden Eagles left themselves down 0-1 on the match.
Set two was all ORU, hitting .318% on the set and recording 10 kills and six service aces. Two kills from
Hope Hickman and
Anzley Rinard helped ORU conquer the Tommies in set two.
Trinity Freeman was a force to be reckoned with, accounting for half of ORU's kills in the set, propelling them to an emphatic set two dub.
Despite logging a team high 15 kills in one set and hitting .286%, the Tommies squeaked by in set three. ORU and UST were tied at 21 heading into the final stretch of the set but the Tommies closed the door on ORU, ending set three on a 8-4 run.
The Bison didn't let the Golden Eagles off that easy as they dominated set four. Eight errors from ORU and fourteen kills from NDSU didn't mix as the Bison claimed the fourth set, 25-13.
The Golden Eagles carded eight errors in the fourth set while the difference in kills between the two foes was 15 to nine, spelling a loss for ORU.
