#ORUVB Drops Three Set Road Match in Denver

DENVER, Colo. – The Golden Eagles dropped their eighth match of conference play to the University of Denver Pioneers in three sets (17-25, 15-25, 20-25).

ORU opened the match on a promising 4-1 run but DU clapped back with a 5-0 run of their own, taking an 8-5 advantage. The Golden Eagles leveled the score at nine all until the Pioneers sparked a 9-3 run to blow the set open. Four kills from Anzley Rinard and two kills from Trinity Freeman couldn't keep ORU in contention in set one.

The Pioneers kept their momentum going into set two, leaping out to a 14-3 lead. ORU didn't go down without a fight, sparking an 8-3 run with help from two Natassia Baptiste kills to cut the Denver lead to six (11-17). The six point advantage was too large for the Golden Eagles to overcome as DU closed the set on an 8-4 run.

Two kills from Kedron Burk and three kills each from Anzley Rinard and Trinity Freeman couldn't secure set three and the match in Denver. A side-by-side battle in set three could erase the ten total errors from ORU leading to their sixth loss of League play.

Match Notes
  • Anzley Rinard was swinging hard at the net, racking up eight kills. She also recorded a block assist and five digs defensively.
  • Breanna Rivas logged six digs on the night, her fourth consecutive match leading ORU in digs

  • Resta's 14 assists marks her 15th match leading ORU in assists this season. Resta has logged 10+ assists in every match this season other than one (9/7 vs. Tulsa: 9)
  • Anzley Rinard and Kedron Burk each logged a service ace.
  • ORU is three wins away from 1,000 wins as a program.
