VERMILLION, S.D. – The Golden Eagles tallied their 20
th loss of the season to the University of South Dakota Coyotes in three sets. (19-25, 15-25, 22-25).
The Golden Eagles opened the first set down 5-9, as USD logged five kills. A 7-1 run by the Coyotes shortly after, didn't help the Golden Eagles cause, leaving them in a six point hole. A late charge from ORU wasn't enough to overcome USD in set one, falling 19-25.
Set two went the Coyotes way, as ORU logged nine errors and was out-killed 8-14. An early 11-3 run by USD helped them gain an early advantage over ORU. A late 6-3 push from the Golden Eagles helped them gain some momentum but it was quickly shut down by two USD kills to seal the set.
The third set came down to the wire but runs of 9-2 and 5-1 by the Coyotes proved to be the difference. On top of long runs, USD carded 18 kills in set three, a difficult number to beat. ORU left it all on the court but couldn't secure a victory in Vermillion.
