TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts women's basketball team fell to South Dakota State, 77-103, as their 11-game home-winning streak came to an end Saturday afternoon.
Taleyah Jones led all scorers with 26 points as she recorded her ninth game of 20 or more points.
Hannah Cooper (17) and
Jalei Oglesby (10) were the other Golden Eagles that reached double-digits.
The Jackrabbits started out hot as they scored 34 first quarter points while shooting 13-of-15 from the floor. SDSU jumped out to a quick 20-10 before ORU called timeout. Jones kept the Golden Eagles afloat as she notched 10 points in the first quarter of play. The Jackrabbits led 34-23 after this first 10 minutes.
Five different Golden Eagles made their way into the scoring column during the second period of play. Both teams shot less 40% from the floor as the scoring slowed down for both programs. Jones led all scorers with 14 points at the half as SDSU held a 48-36 lead at the break.
Out of the break,
Ruthie Udoumoh converted on a basket and the foul and Cooper followed with two more free throws to cut the Jackrabbit lead to single digits. SDSU followed the ORU scoring burst with an 8-0 run that stretched their lead to 17 at the media timeout. Cooper and Udoumoh combined 16 points as SDSU lead, 57-79, heading to the fourth.
ORU ramped up its full court pressure during the fourth quarter as the Jackrabbits turned the ball over nine times. The Golden Eagles collected four steals off of the turnovers scored nine points. SDSU was able to keep ORU at bay for the remainder of the contest as the Jackrabbits came away with thee 103-77 win.
