Tulsa, Okla.– The Oral Roberts baseball team opened Summit League play on Friday night against South Dakota State.
The game kicked off with a bang as the Jackrabbits wasted no time generating offense, quickly building a commanding 5-0 lead in the early innings. South Dakota State's offense combined with a solid outing from Nic McKay would create a load of work for the home team to overcome.
However, the resilient spirit of Oral Roberts shone through as they mounted a valiant comeback effort in the latter stages of the game. In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Golden Eagles rallied with two crucial runs, narrowing the gap with stellar plays from Drew Stahl, whose RBI walk injected new life into ORU's offense, and Holden Breeze, who capitalized on an error to score a pivotal run.
Despite their late surge and a spirited display of determination, Oral Roberts ultimately fell short in completing the comeback. The Jackrabbits' solid defense and terrific starting pitching proved too formidable, holding off ORU's offensive onslaught and securing a hard-fought 5-2 victory.
