STANFORD, CA. – Abraham Chelangam set a new school record in the 5000 meter as he opened the 2024 outdoor season for the Oral Roberts track and field team at the Stanford Invitational on Friday, March 29.

Chelangam, the reigning Summit League Indoor Track and Field Track Athlete of the Year, opened the outdoor season right where he left off indoor. The redshirt freshman was the lone Golden Eagle at the invitational. He finished in second place in his heat after running a personal best and school record 13:52.80 in the 5000 meter. Battling cold and rainy conditions, Chelangam was able to adjust and put together a record-breaking outing.

A Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Athlete to Watch, Chelangam has positioned himself for a breakout outdoor season following his historical indoor campaign.

The Golden Eagles will open the outdoor season as a team next week as they travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas to compete in the Arkansas Spring Invitational on April 6th.
