Nichols 4-RBI Night Lifts #ORUBase Over CMU

The Basics
Score: Oral Roberts 15 – Baylor 5
Records: ORU (5-7), CMU (3-10)
Location: Tulsa, Okla. (JL Johnson Stadium)
Win: Braydon Sanford (1-1) | Loss: Sean Knorr 0-1)

TULSA, Okla.– The Oral Roberts baseball team would put an end to a four-game skid with a huge night from their lineup, kicking off their five-game homestand with a huge 15-5 win over Central Michigan.

Joshua Caravalho would make his 2024 debut, serving as the opener for the Golden Eagles. The junior from California would throw a shutout inning capping it off with strikeout. Braydon Sanford would be called out of the bullpen and the freshman would register his first collegiate strikeout en route to a five on the day.

In the bottom of the second the Golden Eagles' offense would come alive, putting the Chippewas into a five-run deficit. Blake Nichols and Ryan Blackwell would start things off collecting RBI's off a single and fielder's choice respectively. Elijah Rodriguez would get in on the fun, driving in two runs of a double to right field, and Holden Breeze would help him score off a single up the middle.

ORU would continue to give their bullpen insurance as Nichols would step to the plate and send his first home run of the season over the right field fence giving the Golden Eagles a 7-0 lead.

The fourth and fifth inning saw the two squads trade runs as the Chippewas were able to plate three and ORU was able to score off a wild pitch.

In the sixth however, the Golden Eagles would blow the game wide open, as they scored four runs to extend the lead to nine runs. Breeze would collect another RBI off a single, David Herring drove in two off a blooper to right field, and Stahl would score for the second time off a passed ball.

CMU would score a run in seventh, but a sacrifice-fly by Rodriguez would quickly negate their efforts.

The eighth saw Rodger extend the lead off a fielder's choice and Nichols collecting his fourth RBI of the game for the Golden Eagles.

Despite ORU giving up their first ninth-inning run of the season, it was too little too late for CMU as the 10-run buffer would be more than enough to secure the win.
