TULSA, Okla. – The Golden Eagles fell to South Dakota in three sets on Saturday afternoon as they hosted the Coyotes in their second game of a two-game home series.
ORU opened the first set giving up a 5-0 run early, fighting from behind from the start of the game. A 9-2 run from the Coyotes mid-first set pushed the USD lead to eight (16-8). The Golden Eagles fought back late in the first set but it wasn't enough as the Coyotes took set one.
USD dominated set two, behind an 18-3 run to close the set. Two kills from
Trinity Freeman and a kill from
Hope Hickman weren't enough to overcome the dominant run from the Coyotes.
Four kills from
Trinity Freeman and two from
Natassia Baptiste gave ORU hope in the third set but it wasn't enough to push past USD. The Golden Eagles hurt themselves, carding eight errors in set three, allowing the Coyotes to secure the victory.
