TULSA, Okla. – The ORU volleyball program dropped its opening match of a two-match homestand to the St. Thomas Tommies, 3-1.
 
The Golden Eagles took control on the first point of the match and never trailed to win the first set 25-23. ORU led by as many as four points at 22-18 before finishing off the set. In set two, the Golden Eagles trailed by as many as six points as St. Thomas grabbed the advantage for good at 22-21 in a set that was tied three times before the Tommies took over. The Golden Eagles fell behind on the first point in set three and never clawed back into the lead before falling in the set 25-15. In set four, St. Thomas grabbed the lead at 4-3 and ORU wasn't able to recover.
 
Match Notes

• Hayden Hart had a team-high one ace in the loss.
• ORU never trailed on the way to winning the first set 25-23.
• Cortnee Smith had a match-high and career-high 17 kills and held a .419 clip.
• The Golden Eagles got a team-high nine digs from Farah Helmy.
• Farah Helmy tallied a team-high 27 assists.
