TULSA, Okla. – Led by six players in double figures, the Oral Roberts women's basketball team defeated Texas A&M–Corpus Christi, 89-74, on Wednesday.
The Golden Eagles' balanced effort was highlighted by
Gentry Baldwin's 17 points, as she went 6-of-8 from the floor and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.
Anna Trusty added 13 points and six rebounds, while
Jalei Oglesby chipped in 12 points.
Freshman
Preslee Hartsock finished with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting, and
Azailah Funches contributed 10 points after going 3-of-3 from the field and 4-of-5 at the free-throw line.
Kayten Donley also scored 10 points and led ORU with five assists.
The Golden Eagles were efficient from downtown, knocking down eight threes on 18 attempts. Baldwin led the way from long range with three triples.
Defensively, ORU disrupted the Islanders' rhythm, recording five blocks.
A'Maya Holton led the team with two of those rejections.
ORU opened strong, taking a 15-14 lead into the second quarter. The Golden Eagles' bench provided a key lift early, scoring five of the team's 15 points in the opening frame.
TAMUCC rallied in the second quarter, building a 36-30 advantage before ORU responded with a 5-0 run starting at the 1:45 mark, capped by a bucket from Oglesby, to pull within 36-35. The Islanders regained control late, sending ORU into halftime trailing 38-35.
The Golden Eagles surged out of the break, tying the game at 46-46 before unleashing a 10-0 run– punctuated by a Hartsock three– to take a 56-46 lead with 2:36 left in the third. ORU maintained its edge and entered the fourth quarter ahead 62-52, fueled by six second-chance points off three offensive rebounds in the period.
ORU kept the momentum rolling in the fourth, going on a 9-0 run capped by a Baldwin triple to extend its lead to 71-57 with 6:59 remaining. The Golden Eagles continued to widen the gap, capitalizing on seven Islander turnovers to score 15 points in the quarter and secure the 89-74 victory.
The Leaders
Oral Roberts: Baldwin led the way with 17 points, including three triples. Trusty pulled down a team-high six rebounds, while Donley dished out a team-best five assists.
A&M Corpus Christi: helsea Wooten paced the Islanders with 18 points. K'Nari Holliday recorded a double-double with a game-high 15 rebounds and 15 points.
