MOSCOW, Idaho – Rallying from a 14-point second-half deficit, the Oral Roberts women's basketball team defeated Idaho 92-89 in the first game of the Big Sky-Summit Challenge Wednesday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles had four players in double figures, led by
Anna Trusty's 24 points.
Jalei Oglesby and
Kayten Donley closely followed with 20 and 19 points, respectively.
Alana Shetlar rounded out the double-digit scoring with a career-best 12 points, shooting 5-of-6 from the floor and 2-of-2 from behind the arc.
The ORU offense found success from downtown, knocking down nine threes on 22 attempts. Donley and Trusty each sank a three in the contest.
Defensively, ORU forced 14 Idaho turnovers and turned them into 23 points on the other end. Donley led the Golden Eagles individually with two steals.
After falling behind 8-2 early, Oral Roberts responded with a 7-0 run capped by an Oglesby bucket to take a 9-8 lead with 7:02 left in the first quarter. The Golden Eagles later surrendered that lead and entered the second period down 21-18. Oglesby led all scorers in the quarter with eight points on 4-of-6 shooting.
Idaho continued to grow its lead in the second, building a 32-20 advantage before ORU countered with a 9-0 run—highlighted by a Donley three—to pull within 32-29. The Vandals responded again and pushed their lead to 43-38 at halftime. Donley reached double figures in the period, scoring eight points with two threes and free throws.
The Golden Eagles' deficit grew in the third, as ORU trailed 66-56 heading into the final quarter despite scoring 14 of its 18 third-quarter points in the paint.
ORU cut the deficit to 77-71 in the fourth before going on an 8-0 run, capped by a Shetlar layup, to take a 79-77 lead with 4:47 remaining. The game remained tight, with the score tied three times in the final 10 minutes, but the Golden Eagles gradually extended their lead and held on for the 92-89 victory. ORU capitalized on five Idaho turnovers in the fourth quarter, converting them into nine points.
The Leaders
Oral Roberts: Trusty led all scorers with 24 points. Donley posted a team-best five rebounds to go with two blocks and two steals.
Gentry Baldwin dished out a game-high six assists.
Idaho: Debora Dos Santos led the Vandals with a 22-point, 15-rebound double-double.
