TULSA, Okla. – After entering halftime tied at 32, the Oral Roberts women's basketball team pulled away in the second half to earn a 68-58 win over Idaho State in the second game of the Big Sky-Summit Challenge on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles placed three players in double figures, led by Jalei Oglesby's 16 points, five assists and three steals. Anna Trusty added 14 points and five steals, while Gentry Baldwin chipped in 10 points.
Azailah Funches grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
ORU shared the ball well, dishing out 16 assists on 23 made field goals, with Oglesby pacing the team with five. Defensively, the Golden Eagles forced 25 ISU turnovers and converted them into 21 points, with Trusty leading the way individually with five steals.
The first quarter ended tied at 12-12 after a tightly contested opening frame in which the Golden Eagles capitalized on six Idaho State turnovers for four points. The second quarter followed a similar script, featuring 11 ties in the first half before the teams entered the break even at 32-32. ORU's bench contributed six of its 20 total bench points in the second period.
Oral Roberts opened the third quarter with a 6-0 run, capped by a three from Kayten Donley, to take a 38-32 lead with 6:52 remaining. Idaho State trimmed the gap late in the frame, but the Golden Eagles maintained a 49-45 advantage entering the fourth. ORU connected on three three-pointers in the quarter to help total 17 points.
The Bengals pulled even at 51-51 early in the fourth, but the Golden Eagles answered with another 6-0 run– finished off by a Donley layup– to reclaim a 57-51 lead with 6:06 remaining. ORU continued to build on its advantage, knocking down three shots from deep in the final period and closing out the 68-58 victory.
The Leaders
Oral Roberts: Oglesby led the way with 16 points and five assists. Funches secured a team-high seven rebounds, while Trusty's five steals were a game-high.
Idaho State: Tasia Jordan scored a game-best 24 points on 11-of-17 shooting. Piper Carlson pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
