Coons and Gordon Record Career-Highs in #ORUWBB’s 85-52 Win Over Omaha

TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts women's basketball's Hannah Coons and Ari Gordon each recorded a career-high 15 points off the bench in the Golden Eagles' 85-52 win over Omaha on Saturday afternoon.


Including Coons and Gordon, the Golden Eagles had four players score in double figures, led by Anna Trusty, who recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Kayten Donley chipped in 11 points and a team-best seven assists.
 


Oral Roberts out-rebounded Omaha 52-36 in Saturday's contest, paced by Trusty's 10 boards.

ORU forced 25 Omaha turnovers while committing 15 of its own. The Golden Eagles converted those takeaways into 35 points, with Gordon's six steals leading the way.

After jumping out to a 15-12 advantage, ORU went on a 9-0 run with 1:30 left in the first quarter, capped by a bucket from Trusty, to increase its lead to 24-12. The Golden Eagles capitalized on seven Omaha turnovers in the period, turning them into 10 points.


ORU maintained its first-quarter lead before going on a 12-0 run beginning at the 7:46 mark of the second period, highlighted by a basket from Jalei Oglesby, to extend the advantage to 38-15. The Mavericks cut into the lead, but the Golden Eagles still held a 43-24 advantage heading into halftime. Oral Roberts dominated in the paint, scoring 12 of its 19 points near the basket in the quarter.

ORU held its lead into the third quarter before going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by another Trusty basket, to push the advantage to 60-35 with three seconds remaining in the period, a score that held through the end of the quarter. Oral Roberts continued to play well inside, scoring 14 of its 17 points in the paint.

The Golden Eagles kept control in the fourth quarter before closing the game with an 8-0 run, finished off by Bella Edwards' three-pointer, to grow the lead to 85-52 with 37 seconds remaining. Oral Roberts took advantage of its post opportunities, scoring 14 of its 25 fourth-quarter points in the paint.

Oral Roberts: Anna Trusty paced the Golden Eagles with a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double.

Omaha: Ali Stephens led the Mavericks with 16 points, while Avril Smith posted a game-best 16 rebounds and five blocks.
