ABILENE, Texas – The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles took a 5-3 lead into the seventh inning but came up short, falling 8-7 to the Abilene Christian Wildcats Sunday.
 
Kash Ferris (0-1) came out of the bullpen for Oral Roberts and took the loss. Weston Rouse was a bright spot for the Golden Eagles, also coming out of the bullpen and throwing 3.2 innings. He allowed two earned runs on two hits with one walk and six strikeouts.
 
At the plate, the Golden Eagles were led by Martell Davis, who went 2-for-5 on the day with a home run and three RBIs. Makani Tanaka also compiled a standout day at the dish, going 1-for-2 with a double, four walks and an RBI. Cooper Kelly contributed two hits in four trips to the plate, adding a double, a walk and two RBIs.
 
The Golden Eagles got the scoring started early, putting five runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Cooper Kelly opened the scoring with a two-RBI double. Martell Davis followed with a three-run homer to left field.
 
The Wildcats cut into the advantage with home runs in the first and sixth innings, making it 5-3. The Golden Eagles then built a four-run cushion with an RBI hit-by-pitch from Hudson Ellis and an RBI walk by Makani Tanaka in the seventh. ACU answered by leveling the score at seven in the seventh inning and ended the game with a walk-off single.
 
ACU reliever Blaine Palmer earned the win after pitching the final inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.

The Golden Eagles will remain on the road, traveling to Missouri State for a midweek matchup Tuesday.
