OMAHA, Nebraska – Freshman guard Preslee Hartsock reached double-figure scoring off the bench as the Oral Roberts women's basketball team fell 84-75 at Omaha on Wednesday evening.
Joining Hartsock in double figures were Jalei Oglesby, who led the team with 23 points, and Kayten Donley with 18 points. Ari Gordon and Anna Trusty each added nine points for the Golden Eagles.
Oral Roberts forced 21 Omaha turnovers while committing just nine in Wednesday's game. The Golden Eagles turned those takeaways into 17 points on the offensive end. Donley's four steals led the way for Oral Roberts.
Oral Roberts struggled out of the gate, falling behind 24-13 at the end of the first quarter. Omaha continued to build its lead to 29-17 in the second before Oral Roberts went on a 6-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Donley, to narrow the deficit to 29-23. Omaha responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Golden Eagles trailing 48-34 heading into halftime.
Omaha continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 51-34 advantage before Oral Roberts went on an 8-0 run, punctuated by a three from Hartsock, to trim the deficit to 51-42 with 7:02 to go in the third. The Golden Eagles continued to chip away at the Omaha lead, shrinking it to 63-55 by the end of the quarter. Oral Roberts knocked down three three-pointers in the period, accounting for nine of its 21 total points.
Omaha widened its lead again in the fourth, constructing a 68-57 advantage before Oral Roberts went on a 6-0 run, capped by Oglesby's jumper, to cut the deficit to 68-63 with 6:10 remaining. Omaha responded and outscored the Golden Eagles the rest of the way, securing the 84-75 final. Oral Roberts forced six Omaha turnovers in the quarter and scored five points off those takeaways.
The Leaders
Oral Roberts: Jalei Oglesby led the Golden Eagles with 23 points, shooting 8-of-19 from the field and 7-of-9 from the free-throw line. Kayten Donley was one rebound shy of a double-double, leading ORU with nine boards.
Omaha: Regan Juenemann led the Mavs with 40 points, shooting 13-of-19 from the field, 7-of-11 from beyond the arc, and 7-of-8 from the line. Avril Smith recorded a game-best 23 rebounds and four blocks.
