CONWAY, Arkansas – The Oral Roberts baseball team fell 8-7 at Central Arkansas on Tuesday afternoon.
Makani Tanaka led the team, going 3-for-5 and recording the only extra-base hit for the Golden Eagles with an RBI double in the fourth.
Central Arkansas opened the scoring in the second inning with a one-run homer to left field. The Bears followed by adding five more runs in the inning, scoring on two singles, a fielder's choice, and a groundout to make it 6-0.
After a scoreless third, the Golden Eagles brought the game within one run by adding five in the fourth.
Martell Davis,
Nate Nichols, and
Tyler Brodrick each walked to load the bases before
Ethan Fender drew an RBI walk.
Matthew Mainord then sent a single through the right side to score Nichols, followed by
Hudson Ellis with a two-RBI single that brought Fender and Brodrick home.
Makani Tanaka capped the scoring in the inning with an RBI single through the left side.
UCA added a run in the fifth, but the Golden Eagles were quick to respond, tying the game at seven in the top of the sixth. ORU's two runs came as Mainord reached second on an error and moved to third on a flyout before being driven in on a Tanaka double. Tanaka advanced to third on a flyout by Combs and later scored on a wild pitch to even the score.
The Bears added the final run of the day in the bottom of the eighth, scoring on a sacrifice fly to secure the 8-7 win.
Sophomore
Cooper Moore (0-1) took the loss on the mound for Oral Roberts. The right-hander went one inning, allowing one run.
UCA closer Braxton Haywood (1-1) earned the win after throwing 2.0 innings, allowing no runs or hits while striking out five.
