Makani Tanaka and
Martell Davis each collected two extra-base hits to power the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles to an 11-1, seven-inning run-rule win over Arkansas Little Rock on Wednesday afternoon.
Leadoff hitter Tanaka led the way with three hits, driving in three runs while scoring two. His two extra-base hits included a double and a triple, while Davis went 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and a walk.
Wailele Kane-Yates also contributed an extra-base hit with a double.
ORU opened the scoring with a six-run second inning.
Cooper Kelly led off the inning with an infield single and advanced to third on a Davis double before
Tyler Brodrick drew a walk to load the bases. The Golden Eagles took a 5-0 lead with no outs as
Kole Dudding and
Matthew Mainord delivered back-to-back RBI singles, followed by a two-run single from
Hudson Ellis and an RBI single from Tanaka. Kane-Yates capped the scoring with an RBI double to left-center, giving ORU a 6-0 lead.
The Trojans added their lone run of the game in the bottom of the third on an RBI walk.
Cooper Combs lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to score Tanaka, who had reached on a triple, making it 7-1 in the sixth. ORU added four more runs in the top of the seventh to extend its lead to 11-1 and secure the run-rule victory.
Davis and Dudding drew walks to open the inning before Mainord singled to score Davis and move Dudding into scoring position. After a pitching change, Tanaka drove in both runners with a double to left field, pushing the Golden Eagles into double digits at 10-1. Kane-Yates followed with an RBI single to score Tanaka and give ORU a 10-run advantage.
Luke Williams entered to pitch the final inning, striking out one batter before the game ended on a 6-4-3 double play.
Junior
Braydon Sanford (2-0) earned the win out of the bullpen for Oral Roberts. The right-hander entered in the third inning and threw 2.1 shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking two and striking out three.
The Trojans used eight pitchers in the midweek matchup. Starter Nic Bronzini was charged with the loss after allowing five runs on four hits with one walk and two strikeouts in one inning of work.
